What’s Good In My Hood Outdoor Adventure Camp is at Healthy Kidz HQ – Detroit Free Press
At the end of the 2007-08 school year, Maria Adams-Lawton had an important choice to make, and she relied on the same multiplication skills she taught in her classroom to come to a life-changing decision. “It was a choice between touching the lives of 30 students at a time in a classroom or having a chance to positively impact 3,000 lives,” Adams-Lawton said, while explaining how she went from teaching fourth grade math at Golightly Education Center to turning her attention fully to Healthy Kidz Inc., a nonprofit she had started three years earlier. “Exposing, and giving as many children as possible positive opportunities, that’s what it’s all about because you never…

When You Only Carry the Essentials, There’s Always Space for Joy – Climbing Magazine
If you had to boil down all the lessons of the outdoors into just one, it would be this: simplicity is the source of joy. After all, it’s the simplicity of hiking that frees us to focus on the things that matter most. It’s the unfussiness of camping that shows us how little we really need to thrive. That same philosophy also holds true when it comes to outdoor equipment. At least, that’s the view of Hyperlite Mountain Gear. Founded over a decade ago in Maine, the brand was built around the idea that less is more—and that simple, thoughtful gear fades into the background, allowing the environments you’re traveling…

The Best Camping Gadgets of 2022 – Outdoor Life
Published Jun 30, 2022 5:18 PM Who doesn’t love walking the aisles of your local outdoor store or surfing the web for sweet camping gadgets we don’t need but want? I am admittedly a collector of gear—many pieces my wife says I don’t need. My argument: camping gadgets make the trip more fun and luxurious. I love prepping and packing for my trips into the wild. I venture into my gear shed and search the shelves for gear that will enhance my car camping or backpacking trip. Over my lifetime, I’ve backpacked over 6,000 miles and slept outside over 1,000 times, so I have some strong opinions. Here are some…
